Arran Private Cask 16 Years Old 2000

The 2000 vintage at Arran sits within the period when the distillery's production had stabilised at consistent volumes under the established Lochranza template. Cask 2000/126 was filled with Oloroso seasoned wood early in the 2000 production year and matured sixteen years before bottling for the Italian market through the Private Cask programme. The 232 bottle outturn captures the working yield of the single cask after the long maturation.

Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 2000 and matured sixteen years in a single Oloroso seasoned cask. Bottled in 2016 at 57.1% without chill filtration and without added colour, with the strong natural ABV reflecting the integrated cask strength after sixteen years of evaporation in the dunnage conditions at Lochranza.

Sixteen years of Oloroso cask maturation produces deep extraction of the sherry compound profile, with sotolon, furfural, syringaldehyde and the oxidised polyphenols developed during the original wine ageing under flor free conditions. The cask wood as European oak contributes its own lactone and tannic profile, with the longer maturation driving slow oxidation of the spirit's lighter compounds into deeper aldehyde based aromatics.
