Scottish market Private Cask bottlings are a smaller subset of the wider programme, with most casks bottled for European markets where the specialist whisky retail trade has stronger working relationships with the Arran scheme. This 2008 vintage 10 Year Old was bottled for Scottish retail through cask 2008/111, with the low cask number indicating early in the 2008 production year. The 285 bottle outturn reflects the working yield of the single ex Bourbon cask after ten years.
Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 2008 and matured ten years in a single ex Bourbon American oak cask. Bottled in 2018 at the high natural cask strength of 60.2% without chill filtration and without added colour, with the strong ABV reflecting the concentrated cask after ten years of evaporative loss.
Ten years of ex Bourbon maturation produces measured cask integration, with vanillin, whisky lactones and the toasted sugar layer from American oak supporting the underlying Arran spirit signature. The high 60.2% cask strength preserves the maximum lipid fraction and delivers the full textural intensity of the unfiltered spirit. Flavour tag: fresh fruit, consistent with the characteristic Arran ex Bourbon profile at the ten year cask point.
