Arran 7 Years Old

The Non Chillfiltered series formed part of Arran's earlier range structure, prior to the consolidation of cask finishes and age statements into the current core range. The series functioned as a positioning statement around Arran's longstanding production policy of bottling without chill filtration or added colour, a stance the distillery has maintained since its earliest commercial releases in 1998. This 7 Years Old expression sits in that range as a young, transparent presentation of the Lochranza house style.

Spirit was matured for seven years in ex Bourbon American oak casks at Lochranza, drawing on stock distilled in the early 2000s as the distillery scaled up production volumes. Bottled at 46% specifically because that strength is the threshold above which non chill filtered bottling avoids the haze formation that lower strengths require filtration to prevent. No added colour, with the natural amber developed during the relatively short cask period.

At 46% and unfiltered, the heavier long chain fatty acid esters remain in solution rather than being removed by the cold filtration process that lower strength bottlings require. These esters contribute the textural weight and creamy mouthfeel that filtered single malts of equivalent age tend to lack. The young Bourbon profile is fresh and forward: vanillin, whisky lactones and the underlying Arran citric and stone fruit signature unmasked by extended cask interaction.
