Description
The Caramba label is one of the many private label names applied to Arran Private Cask bottlings, where cask owners use the programme's bottling vehicle but present the whisky under their own naming and design identity. Per the Arran Private Cask programme rules, the Arran name cannot appear on the front label of private cask bottlings, leading to the wide diversity of brand names that appear across Whiskybase listings of Private Cask releases. The Caramba bottling drew on Oloroso cask 2006/800475 at eleven years old for the Dutch market.
Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 2006 and matured eleven years in a single Oloroso seasoned cask. Bottled in 2018 at 54.6% without chill filtration and without added colour, with the 281 bottle outturn reflecting the working yield of the single Oloroso cask after eleven years.
Eleven years of Oloroso seasoned cask maturation produces meaningful integration of the sherry compound layer with the underlying Arran spirit signature. Sotolon, furfural and the polyphenol fraction from the original wine ageing drive the dark sherry register, with the European oak substrate contributing its tannic backbone and supporting lactone profile. The flavour tag of nutty reflects the developing oxidative aldehyde compounds characteristic of Oloroso cask maturation at this age.
