Description
Berry Bros and Rudd was established at 3 St James's Street in London in 1698 and has operated continuously from the same premises through more than three centuries. The company holds Royal Warrants and has been a member of the British wine and spirits trade across multiple generations of the founding families. Berry's single malt bottling activity formally began in the early twentieth century, with the modern Berry Bros and Rudd single cask single malt programme presenting individually selected casks at natural cask strength or carefully reduced strength under the company's distinctive label design.
Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 1996 and matured twenty years in single cask 372 before being selected for bottling by Berry Bros and Rudd. The cask wood for Berry's selections varies, with the company sourcing casks based on individual character rather than a fixed template. Bottled without chill filtration and without added colour.
Twenty years of single cask maturation produces deep cask integration, with vanillin, whisky lactones, furfural and the oxidised compounds from extended Bourbon wood contact layered against the underlying Arran spirit signature. The 1996 vintage captures the second year of Lochranza production at a maturation point where the new make character has fully integrated with two decades of cask interaction. Single cask presentation preserves the specific intensity of the individual parcel.
