Arran 20 Jahre Whiskyherbst Berlin 20 Years Old 1998

The Whiskyherbst Berlin festival has run continuously since 1999 as the annual autumn whisky fair in the German capital, becoming one of the longest established events in the German speaking whisky market. The 20 Jahre title on this bottling marks the festival's twentieth anniversary edition in 2019, with the special commemorative release drawing on a 1998 vintage Arran cask matured twenty years to align the maturation period with the anniversary numerical theme. Cask 897 from the 1998 production year was selected for the event bottling.

Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 1998 and matured twenty years in a single Oloroso seasoned cask. Bottled in 2019 at 51.6% without chill filtration and without added colour, with the 254 bottle outturn reflecting the working yield of the single cask after twenty years.

Twenty years of Oloroso cask maturation produces deep cask integration, with the sherry compound layer of sotolon, furfural, syringaldehyde and developed oxidised polyphenols well established against the underlying Arran spirit signature from the 1998 distillation year. The anniversary alignment between the festival's twenty years and the cask's twenty year maturation provides a symbolic framing for the commemorative release format.
