The Big Fat American V8 name applied to this Private Cask release plays on the American oak Bourbon cask wood that delivered the dominant flavour profile of the bottling. The very low cask number 1999/020 places this cask among the earliest fillings of the 1999 production year at Lochranza. The German specialist whisky retail trade tends to embrace this kind of playful private label naming when the Arran name itself cannot appear on the front label per the Private Cask programme rules.

Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in early 1999 and matured fifteen years in a single ex Bourbon American oak cask. Bottled in 2015 at the natural cask strength of 56.4% without chill filtration and without added colour, with the 182 bottle outturn reflecting the working yield of the single cask after fifteen years of evaporative concentration.

Fifteen years of ex Bourbon maturation produces deep cask integration, with the vanillin, cis whisky lactones, toasted sugar fraction from hemicellulose breakdown and the developing oxidative compounds well developed against the underlying Arran spirit signature from the 1999 distillation year. The American oak signature is particularly pronounced at this age and ABV, justifying the playful Big Fat American V8 framing of the cask character.
