Description
Jack Wiebers Whisky World is a German specialist bottler based in Stuhr, North Germany, building a reputation through the 2000s and 2010s for thematically presented single cask releases. The Great Ocean Liners series ties each bottling to a specific historic passenger ship from the golden age of transatlantic travel, with the romance of the named vessel framing the cask presentation. The 119 bottle outturn at eighteen years is unusually small, suggesting either a particularly active cask or a small format quarter cask used for the bottling.
Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 1996 and matured eighteen years in a single cask before being shipped to Jack Wiebers for bottling. The cask wood type follows Jack Wiebers' selection criteria of identifying casks showing standout standalone character. Bottled in 2014 at 52.6% for the Swiss market without chill filtration and without added colour.
Eighteen years of cask maturation produces well integrated cask and spirit layering, with the underlying Arran spirit signature from the 1996 distillation year retaining visibility against the developed cask interaction. The small 119 bottle outturn reflects either advanced evaporative loss in an active cask or use of a smaller cask format for the bottling, with single cask presentation preserving the specific intensity of the individual parcel.
