Description
Malts of Scotland was founded in 2009 by Thomas Ewers in Germany as an independent bottler focused on cask strength single malt Scotch whisky. The company has built a strong reputation across the German speaking and wider European whisky community for careful cask selection and presentation at natural strength. The MoS cask reference prefix and the bottle reference 17022 identify this Arran release within the company's working inventory cask numbering. Spirit drawn from the 2005 Lochranza distillation year.
Spirit was matured at Lochranza for twelve years in single cask MoS 17022 before transfer to Malts of Scotland for bottling. The cask wood type is consistent with the Malts of Scotland selection template of refill Bourbon hogsheads selected for clean standalone character. Bottled at natural cask strength without chill filtration and without added colour.
Twelve years of Bourbon cask maturation produces measured integration of cask and spirit, with vanillin and whisky lactones extracted from the American oak sitting in balance with the Arran citric and fresh fruit signature. Cask strength bottling preserves the full lipid fraction and delivers the textural depth that lower strength bottlings would require chill filtration to maintain. The Malts of Scotland presentation focuses on the unmodified cask character.
