Description
Jan van Wees and Maurice van Wees operate the Dutch independent bottler van Wees, with the family business running since 1937 and the formal independent bottling programme launched in 1990 under The Ultimate banner. The Ultimate Cask Strength range presents cask strength single cask releases under consistent label presentation, with each cask numbered and identified by distillery and age. The programme has built a long working relationship with multiple Scotch distilleries including Arran, with releases like this 2008 vintage 10 Year Old appearing regularly in the catalogue.
Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 2008 and matured ten years in a single ex Bourbon American oak cask referenced 08/60. Bottled in 2018 at the natural cask strength of 57.7% without chill filtration and without added colour.
Ten years of ex Bourbon maturation produces measured cask integration, with vanillin, cis whisky lactones and the toasted sugar layer from American oak hemicellulose breakdown developing alongside the underlying Arran spirit signature from the 2008 distillation year. The 57.7% cask strength preserves the full lipid fraction and the textural weight of the unfiltered spirit. Flavour profile: fresh fruit, honey, vanilla.
