Description
Arnot-Roberts is a California producer known for a restrained, terroir-driven approach, making wines balanced and fresh rather than ripe and high in alcohol. This Zinfandel follows that style, picked to keep acidity and finishing at a moderate 13.5%, well below the heavy, jammy versions the grape is often known for. Farmed organically, it is handled gently so the emphasis stays on bright red fruit and freshness, with only light tannin extraction. The colour is bright and the nose shows red cherry, ripe red berries and a touch of jammy fruit lifted by baked spice such as nutmeg and clove. The palate is light to medium bodied and refreshing, with fine tannin, lively acidity and a clean, savoury finish that carries the wine well beyond the usual Zinfandel weight. Serve it lightly chilled, around 15C, in a Burgundy glass. Its lighter frame and bright fruit make it flexible at the table, good with roast pork, poultry, charcuterie and lighter game.
