From Arnaud Lambert’s organic estate in the Loire, this Saumur Cabernet Franc comes off the region’s tuffeau limestone. It shows raspberry and redcurrant, a savoury herbal edge and the bright, chalk-driven freshness typical of Saumur reds.
Description
Arnaud Lambert inherited his family estate in 2005, with vines split between Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg and Brézé, and farms organically across some of the best terroirs in Saumur. Terres Rouges is a Cabernet Franc from AOC Saumur. The region's defining feature is its tuffeau, the soft chalky limestone of the Loire that drains well, regulates water through the growing season and gives the reds their freshness and fine-grained tannin. Cabernet Franc thrives in this cool, northern climate, where it ripens reliably while keeping the bright acidity and herbal lift that set Loire reds apart. Made in a precise, pure style, the wine keeps its fruit vivid and its structure restrained. The colour is a clear medium red. The nose shows raspberry and redcurrant with a leafy, thyme-like herbal note and a hint of pepper. The palate is medium bodied and fresh, the red fruit carried by crisp acidity and a fine, savoury tannin that runs to a clean finish. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees, with a light chill in warm weather. It suits grilled pork, roast beef and fresh goats' cheese.
