Arehucas Ron Miel Guanche

Arehucas Ron Miel Guanche is a ron miel from Arehucas, the long established distillery on Gran Canaria. Ron miel is a Canary Islands speciality that blends rum with honey, and at 20% this is honestly a liqueur rather than a rum proper, something to be clear about before pouring.

The nose is sweet and honeyed with candied notes and orange, and the palate follows with honey, syrup and orange peel over a thick, very sweet body, closing simply on more honey and sweetness. There is little of a spirit's bite or rum character here, which is by design, and drinkers note it tastes barely of rum at all. Taken as the sweet honey liqueur it is, served cold or lengthened with fresh lime juice, it does its job pleasantly. Just do not expect anything dry, oaky or spirit forward from it.
