Description
Bottled in February 2024 as the first batch of that month, AD/02.24:01 is an Ardnamurchan Core Batch at 46.8% ABV from ex Bourbon and Oloroso casks. The distillery filled 12,500 bottles for the Netherlands market.
Production at Ardnamurchan starts with Concerto barley milled into a copper topped semi lauter mash tun, fermented 72 to 120 hours in seven stainless steel washbacks on a single strain distiller's yeast. Double distillation through two wash stills and two spirit stills with reflux boil balls reaches a new make of 74 to 76% ABV. The release vats both peated and unpeated production runs from the distillery's split regime. Spirit was filled at 63.5% and matured on site in dunnage warehousing at Glenbeg.
Ex Bourbon American oak contributes vanillin and oak lactones at the base, while the Oloroso fraction brings rancio derived dried fruit and oxidative depth through slow polyphenol and aldehyde oxidation across years of cask interaction. The hay and leafy notes in the profile reflect retained green grassy congeners from the long fermentation, while the rubbery hint points to sulfur compounds (likely dimethyl trisulfide) carried through from the peated portion's higher ppm load, where the reflux boil ball does not fully strip phenol partner sulfur compounds. Mossy and new wood notes signal moderate cask activity with citric brightness on top.
