An 18 year old single cask Ardmore released by The Whisky Agency in 2010 as part of the Landscapes series, the painterly label run that established Carsten Ehrlich's operation as one of the most respected German independents of its decade. The 1992 distillate falls inside the Allied Distillers period that fed nearly all Ardmore production into Teacher's Highland Cream, and the release captures coal era stock at the point when single cask Ardmore was still rare outside G&M and a few European specialists. 212 bottles for Germany.

Distilled in 1992 at the standard Ardmore peat level of 12 to 14 ppm phenol, the spirit was filled at 63.5% into a single ex Bourbon refill American oak cask and matured in dunnage at Kennethmont. The wash stills operated on direct coal firing throughout the distillation, with the 54 to 55 hour fermentation on Mauri and Kerry yeast giving the spirit its standard ester profile before going into wood. Eighteen years brought the cask to 49.9%, with no chill filtration applied.

Refill Bourbon at this age frames rather than dominates distillery character. Cis whisky lactone reads as soft coconut and pine, vanillin from oak lignin gives a light custard register. Coal era spirit carries furfurals and melanoidins from direct flame distillation that show as toasted oat and brown sugar at this maturity. Apple and pear esters from the Kerry yeast component sit at the centre, with inland peat reading as heather smoke, dry leaf and an earthy phenolic hum.
