Description
A 15 year old single cask Ardmore released by Best Dram in 2024, distilled in 2009 and bottled at 58.2% natural strength. Best Dram operates from Germany with focus on natural strength single cask single malt releases. Cask #2618 sits at the tail of the 2009 numbering cluster running from approximately #2594 to #2618 that is traceable across multiple European bottlers through the early 2020s, indicating a parcel of casks bought through a common cask broker channel. Bottled at the same time as the bottler's cask #2594 Palo Cortado, suggesting the parcel was held back for staged release. 278 bottles for the European market.
Filled at 63.5% into Oloroso seasoned European oak in 2009, the spirit matured at Kennethmont under the post 2001 steam heating regime. Fifteen years brought the strength to 58.2%, with no chill filtration applied at bottling.
Oloroso at this maturity drives rancio compounds, dried fruit oxidation products and tannic structure. Furfural and 5 hydroxymethylfurfural from the wood read as walnut and toasted hazelnut. Quercetin tannins give a dry savoury grip. Steam era distillate underneath shows apple and pear esters from the Kerry yeast component, with the 12 to 14 ppm peat phenols reading as heather smoke, dry leaf and earthy phenolic at integrated intensity. Chocolate, dried fruit, husky old wood and smoky finish close the profile.
