Description
A 14 year old single cask Ardmore released by Jack Wiebers Whisky World under The Crew of the Old Teresa series, bottled at 54.1% natural strength with an Oloroso profile. The Crew of the Old Teresa series carries maritime themed character art labels across multiple distillery releases, sitting alongside Wiebers' Great Ocean Liners series in the bottler's overall thematic identity. Wiebers has been one of the most consistent German indies for Ardmore since the late 1990s, with consistent output from Kennethmont stock over the decades. 174 bottles for the German market from cask #2207.
Filled at 63.5% in 2009 or 2010 based on the cask numbering and maturity, the spirit matured at Kennethmont under the post 2001 steam heating regime in an Oloroso seasoned cask. Fourteen years brought the strength to 54.1%, with no chill filtration applied at bottling.
Oloroso at this maturity drives rancio compounds, dried fruit oxidation products and tannic structure. Furfural and 5 hydroxymethylfurfural from the wood read as walnut and toasted hazelnut. Quercetin tannins give a dry grip across the palate. Steam era distillate underneath shows apple and pear esters from the Kerry yeast component, with the 12 to 14 ppm peat phenols reading as heather smoke, dry leaf and earthy phenolic at integrated intensity. A nutty smoky sherried finish closes the profile.
