Ardbeg 9 Years Old 1999 Cask #626 (Adelphi)

An Adelphi single cask Ardbeg from the 1999 distillation cohort, the second full year of Glenmorangie owned production after the June 1997 acquisition from Allied Distillers. Adelphi, relaunched as an independent bottler in 1993 by Jamie Walker on the heritage of the 1826 to 1907 Glasgow Adelphi distillery, has channelled multiple Ardbeg single casks through its Selection programme across the Glenmorangie revival years.

Filled into refill American oak cask #626 in 1999 during the second full year of Glenmorangie owned production. Matured on Islay for nine years across the 2004 LVMH purchase. Bottled in 2008 at 58.5% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour. The 58.5% reading after nine years sits at the higher end of natural cask strength, indicating a tightly sealed refill barrel.

Nine years of refill American oak interaction delivers spirit forward expression with developing wood interaction. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) build at moderate concentration, lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde contribute emerging vanilla and baking spice, and hemicellulose furans add background caramel. The modern Glenmorangie spec peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) read at peak concentrated intensity at this young age.
