Description
Released by Wilson & Morgan, the Italian independent bottler founded in 1992 in Treviso by Fabio Rossi. Wilson & Morgan emerged as part of the Italian Scotch specialist tradition alongside Velier, Sestante and Intertrade, with the Barrel Selection range presenting selected single casks under documented provenance. The 1991 Ardbeg vintage represents bridge stock from Allied Distillers's intermittent reopening years before the 1996 final closure.
Filled into refill American oak cask in 1991 during Allied's intermittent reopening and matured for nine years across the 1996 final closure and the 1997 Glenmorangie acquisition. Bottled in 2000 at 46% ABV for the Belgian market, unfiltered, uncoloured. The young 9 year bottling at 46% sits at standard Wilson & Morgan presentation strength for the era.
Nine years of refill American oak maturation places this release in the early expression curve. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) emerge at moderate concentration, while lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde deliver early vanilla and baking spice. The 1991 Allied era peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry near full intensity at this young age, delivering classic phenolic smoke before extensive oxidative shift softens the edge. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated tropical fruit (pineapple, lemon, melon), the Allied era spirit still architecture clearly expressed at peak intensity.
