Ardbeg 2000 (Silver Seal)

Released by Silver Seal under the Single Barrel label, the Italian specialist bottler founded by Massimo Righi in Milan. The 62.2% ABV is exceptional for any Scotch maturation: high natural cask strength indicates a tightly sealed cask in the coolest warehouse position, with reduced ethanol attrition through the maturation cycle. Silver Seal continues the Italian bottler tradition established by Velier, Sestante and Intertrade in presenting selected casks without dilution or filtration.

Filled into refill American oak cask in 2000 during Glenmorangie's early revival years following the 1997 acquisition. Bottled at 62.2% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour. The 2000 vintage sits in Glenmorangie's third year of production after restarting Ardbeg, with the modern 50 to 55 ppm phenol specification established and the stillhouse running at consistent modern output.

Refill American oak maturation at retained high ABV intensifies extraction compound expression. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) read sharply, hemicellulose breakdown furans deliver caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. The 2000 modern era peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry full intensity at this maturation point, with the elevated cask strength sharpening the phenolic edge. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated pineapple, lemon and tropical fruit at peak intensity.
