Released by Whiskybroker, the UK independent bottler established by Martin Armstrong with a low markup philosophy: channelling broker stock directly to the consumer with minimal intermediary cost. Whiskybroker has built a reputation through the 2010s for presenting selected single casks at near wholesale pricing, sitting in stark contrast to the premium pricing of contemporary Glenmorangie owned Ardbeg single cask releases.
Filled into refill American oak cask in 1992 during Allied Distillers's intermittent reopening and matured for twenty years across the 1996 final closure, the 1997 Glenmorangie acquisition and the 2004 LVMH purchase. Bottled in 2013 at 46.6% ABV for the Dutch market, non chill filtered with no added colour. The 46.6% reading after two decades reflects steady ethanol attrition through the maritime warehouse cycle.
Twenty years of refill American oak maturation builds developed oak expression. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) reach expressive concentration, hemicellulose breakdown furans (furfural, hydroxymethylfurfural) deliver caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. The 1992 Allied era peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry strong intensity with emerging oxidative shift toward leather and tarred rope. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core.
