Ardbeg 19 Years Old 2000 Cask #MoS 19026 (Malts of Scotland)

A Malts of Scotland single cask Ardbeg from the 2000 distillation cohort, the third full year of Glenmorangie owned production following the 1997 acquisition. By 2000 the modern operating model at Ardbeg was fully established under master distiller Stuart Thomson: recommissioned stillhouse, the modern peating specification at 50 to 55 ppm phenol in malted barley sourced from Port Ellen Maltings, and systematic warehouse management.

Filled into refill American oak cask #MoS 19026 in 2000 during the third full year of Glenmorangie owned production. Matured on Islay for nineteen years across the 2004 LVMH acquisition and into the modern stable era. Bottled in 2019 at 52.1% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour.

Nineteen years of refill American oak maturation builds developed mid age expression. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) reach expressive concentration, hemicellulose breakdown furans (furfural, hydroxymethylfurfural) deliver caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. The modern Glenmorangie spec peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry strong intensity with moderate oxidative shift emerging. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core.
