Ardbeg 16 Years Old 1998 Cask #MoS 14027 (Malts of Scotland)

Malts of Scotland (MoS) is the German independent bottler founded in 2009 by Thomas Ewers in Paderborn, building on a long standing specialist whisky retail and bottling tradition in continental Europe. The Amazing Casks tier sits above the standard MoS releases, reserved for casks selected for exceptional character or rare cask specifications. The MoS prefix on cask #MoS 14027 marks the bottler's own warehouse numbering system.

Filled into refill American oak cask #MoS 14027 in 1998, the first full year of Glenmorangie owned production at Ardbeg following the June 1997 acquisition from Allied Distillers. Matured on Islay for sixteen years across the 2004 LVMH purchase. Bottled in 2014 at 58.2% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour.

Sixteen years of refill American oak maturation builds developed mid age expression. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) reach expressive concentration, hemicellulose breakdown furans (furfural, hydroxymethylfurfural) deliver caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. The modern Glenmorangie spec peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry strong intensity at this age, delivering classic Ardbeg phenolic smoke. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated pineapple, lemon and tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core.
