Description
A German market Ardbeg from the 2009 distillation cohort, released through the Distillery Single Cask programme. Germany has supported Ardbeg single cask exclusives consistently since the early Glenmorangie revival, with the country's specialist whisky retail, private cask groups and enthusiast clubs receiving country exclusive bottlings from the distillery archive. The 2009 vintage has supplied multiple country releases including UK, Sweden and Germany at different age statements.
Matured on Islay for fifteen years from 2009 under LVMH owned Glenmorangie. Bottled in 2024 at 56.1% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour. The 56.1% reading represents typical mid range cask strength after fifteen years for an Ardbeg ex Bourbon cask, with steady ethanol attrition through the humid maritime warehouse cycle.
Fifteen years of American oak maturation builds the modern Ardbeg signature in integrated mid age expression. Cis and trans oak lactones develop coconut and oiled wood at strong concentration, hemicellulose furans (furfural, hydroxymethylfurfural) deliver caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer sweet baking spice. The 50 to 55 ppm peat phenols carry through at full intensity (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) for classic Ardbeg phenolic smoke. The purifier ester signature delivers concentrated pineapple, lemon and tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core.
