Description
A UK market Ardbeg from the 2009 distillation cohort, released through the Distillery Single Cask programme. 2009 has emerged as one of the more heavily released vintages in the modern single cask archive, supplying country exclusive bottlings to Sweden, Germany and the UK, alongside the Feis Ile 2024 release from cask #377 (a second fill PX sherry butt at 59% ABV with 633 bottles).
Matured on Islay for fourteen years from 2009 under LVMH owned Glenmorangie. Bottled in 2023 at 59% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour. The 59% reading after fourteen years sits at the high end of natural cask strength for an Ardbeg ex Bourbon cask, suggesting a tightly sealed cask in a cooler warehouse position with reduced ethanol attrition compared to the warehouse average across the maturation cycle.
Fourteen years of American oak maturation at retained high ABV builds the modern Ardbeg signature in concentrated form. Cis and trans oak lactones read sharply as coconut and oiled wood, while hemicellulose breakdown furans deliver caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. Modern peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry strong intensity at this age, classic Ardbeg phenolic smoke. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated pineapple, lemon and tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core, particularly bright at the elevated cask strength.
