Description
An Adelphi Limited release drawn from cask #700171 of the 2004 distillation cohort, the year Moët Hennessy acquired Glenmorangie and Ardbeg from Macdonald Greenlees. The Limited tier sits above Adelphi's standard Selection range, reserved for particularly distinctive single casks. The 60.7% retained cask strength after fourteen years is exceptional for the maritime climate at Port Ellen, indicating a tightly sealed cask in a cooler dunnage position with very low ethanol attrition.
Filled into refill American oak cask #700171 in 2004 during the transition year between Glenmorangie plc ownership and the new LVMH owned Moët Hennessy structure. Matured on Islay for fourteen years across the modern stable era. Bottled in 2019 at 60.7% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour.
Fourteen years of refill American oak interaction at retained high ABV intensifies extraction compound expression. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) read sharply, hemicellulose breakdown furans deliver emerging caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. The modern 50 to 55 ppm peat phenol load (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) reads at concentrated intensity for classic Ardbeg phenolic smoke, sharper than longer matured siblings where slow oxidation softens the phenolic edge. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated tropical fruit at near peak expression.
