Ardbeg 12 Years Old 2005 (Master of Malt)

Released through Master of Malt's single cask programme, channelled through the UK market. Master of Malt sits within the Atom Group alongside the Atom Brands portfolio (That Boutique y Whisky Company, Drinks by the Dram, Atom Cocktails). The single cask programme presents selected casks under the Master of Malt label with documented provenance and natural strength presentation.

Filled into refill bourbon hogshead in 2005 during the LVMH owned Glenmorangie modern stable era and matured for twelve years before bottling in 2018 at 47.7% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour. The 47.7% reading after twelve years reflects substantial ethanol attrition through the humid maritime warehouse cycle, potentially indicating a higher rack position in a humid dunnage warehouse.

Twelve years of refill bourbon maturation builds early mid age expression. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) build at moderate concentration, hemicellulose breakdown furans (furfural, hydroxymethylfurfural) deliver emerging caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. The modern Ardbeg 50 to 55 ppm peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry full intensity at this age for classic phenolic smoke. At reduced ABV polyphenols and acid compounds express more freely. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated pineapple, lemon and tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core.
