Ardbeg 12 Years Old 2003 Cask #31142 (Master of Malt)

Released through Master of Malt's single cask programme, the bottling arm of the Atom Group operated UK online whisky retailer. Master of Malt sits within the same ownership structure as the Atom Brands portfolio (That Boutique y Whisky Company, Drinks by the Dram and others), with the single cask programme channelling selected casks under the Master of Malt label.

Filled into refill bourbon hogshead in 2003 during the early LVMH ownership era and matured for twelve years before bottling in 2015 at 52% ABV for the German market, non chill filtered with no added colour. The 2003 vintage sits in the post acquisition modern stable era, with the 50 to 55 ppm phenol specification firmly established and the stillhouse routine running at consistent modern output.

Twelve years of refill bourbon maturation builds early mid age expression. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) build at moderate concentration, hemicellulose breakdown furans (furfural, hydroxymethylfurfural) deliver emerging caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. The modern Ardbeg 50 to 55 ppm peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry full intensity at this age for classic phenolic smoke. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated pineapple, lemon and tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core.
