Ardbeg 11 Years Old 2009

A Swedish market exclusive Ardbeg from the 2009 distillation cohort, released through the Distillery Single Cask programme. Sweden has been a consistent destination for Ardbeg single cask releases since the early Glenmorangie era, with the country's specialist whisky retail channelled through Systembolaget's premium and private order tiers receiving regular country exclusive bottlings from the distillery archive.

Matured on Islay for eleven years from 2009 under LVMH owned Glenmorangie. Bottled in 2021 at 59.3% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour. The 59.3% reading after eleven years sits at the high end of expected natural strength for a 2009 vintage cask, indicating a tightly sealed first fill or refill bourbon barrel and likely a cooler dunnage warehouse position where ethanol loss runs slower than the warehouse average.

Eleven years of American oak maturation at high retained ABV intensifies the modern Ardbeg signature: cis and trans oak lactones read sharply as coconut and oiled wood, lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde deliver vanilla and baking spice, and hemicellulose furans add emerging caramel and toasted almond. The 50 to 55 ppm phenol load carries strong intensity at this age (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) for classic Ardbeg phenolic smoke. The purifier ester signature delivers concentrated pineapple, lemon and tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core, particularly sharp at the elevated cask strength.
