An easygoing Jamaican mixer from Appleton Estate under its Kingston 62 label, pairing caramel and tropical fruit with light wood and a gentle dusting of spice, distilled on pot and column stills and bottled unsweetened at 40%.
Description
Kingston 62 Gold is the accessible face of Appleton Estate in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica's largest distillery, built from a blend of pot and column distillate and named for the year of Jamaican independence. It carries no age statement, sits unsweetened at 40%, and is pitched squarely at long drinks rather than contemplative sipping.
Molasses-based and tropically aged, it shows caramel, soft tropical fruit and a woody, overripe edge, with the column component keeping the funk gentle and the pot still adding just a touch of island character. Spice and dried fruit round out a short finish. Neat it can feel a little rough and simple, but with cola or in a tall mix it does the job it was designed for: a relaxed, fruity Jamaican base.
