Antoine Lienhardt makes this Nuits-Saint-Georges from organic and biodynamic vines around Comblanchien, in Burgundy. A natural, vegan Pinot Noir aged sixteen months in used French oak, it shows cherry, red berry and an earthy, savoury depth at 13.5 percent.
Description
Antoine Lienhardt farms 4.2 hectares around the village of Comblanchien, in the Côte de Nuits, treating these modest plots as carefully as Grand Cru sites. The vines are worked organically and biodynamically, and the wines are made naturally with minimal intervention. This Nuits-Saint-Georges grows on the limestone and marl soils that define the Côte d'Or, where the cool continental climate and east-facing slopes hold acidity and give Pinot Noir its structure and savoury character. Fermentation with native yeasts and a portion of whole bunches adds a peppery, floral lift and fine tannin, and sixteen months in used French oak allow gentle oxygen exchange that rounds the texture without new wood flavour. The wine is bright ruby with aromas of cherry, red berries and plum over earth, dried herbs and a peppery note. The palate is medium bodied with silky tannin, fresh acidity and a long, savoury, mineral finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees in a Burgundy glass. It pairs with duck, beef and mushroom dishes.
