Antoine Lienhardt bottles this Côte de Nuits-Villages from Pinot Noir grown biodynamically at Comblanchien. The grapes ferment with native yeasts and the wine rests 12 months in used French oak, giving a bright, perfumed red of red cherry, redcurrant and rose with a fresh, savoury finish.
Description
Les Plantes au Bois is a Côte de Nuits-Villages from Antoine Lienhardt, a natural wine producer who took over his grandfather's vineyards in Comblanchien in 2011. The fruit grows on limestone soils at the southern edge of the Côte de Nuits, farmed biodynamically and picked to favour freshness over weight. The cool continental climate and marked diurnal range hold acidity and keep the Pinot Noir light on its feet. In the cellar the approach is minimal: native yeast fermentation and 12 months in used French oak barrels, which round the tannins through slow oxygen exchange while leaving the fruit unmarked by new wood. The colour is bright, pale ruby. The nose is perfumed, with red cherry, redcurrant and crushed berries lifted by rose petal and a touch of earth. The palate is light to medium bodied, energetic and fresh, with supple tannins and a clean savoury finish. This is an early drinking village Burgundy that rewards a light chill. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees and pour it with roast chicken, duck or a mushroom dish.
