Description
Antoine Lienhardt took over vines his grandfather planted in 1960 in the village of Comblanchien and set out to show the worth of the Cote de Nuits terroirs through natural, organic and biodynamic farming, guided by soil, air and water. Gamayoptere is a Coteaux-Bourguignons Gamay grown on the limestone-rich soils of the Cote de Nuits, where cool nights and a short season keep the wine fresh and light. Vinification is low intervention, with about seven months in stainless steel tanks and concrete eggs rather than oak, so the fruit stays pure and bright while the concrete lends a subtle roundness of texture. Avoiding barrels keeps the wine transparent and unmarked by wood. The colour is a vivid, light ruby. The nose leads with red berries, cherry and a floral, almost violet note, backed by a touch of earth and pepper, while the palate is juicy and low in tannin with lively acidity and a fresh finish. Serve at 14 to 15 degrees, with a light chill in warm weather. It suits charcuterie, roast chicken and grilled salmon.
