Description
Antica Sambuca Liquorice is an Italian aniseed liqueur bottled at 38%, made at the Rossi d'Asiago distillery in the Veneto, founded in 1968 by the chemist Giovan Battista Rossi. It reworks the house sambuca toward liquorice, joining an intense liquorice note to the characteristic anise and herb sweetness of the style, made to a traditional recipe that keeps the sambuca backbone while pushing the liquorice forward. The result is a darker, sweeter take on the classic anise liqueur.
The nose is a powerful liquorice note over the warm sweetness of sambuca and a subtle spice, the palate full bodied and smooth with dominant liquorice, the anise sweetness and a fine herbal spiciness, finishing long with liquorice receding into sweet herbal spice. Behind the bar it brings sweet liquorice and anise with a herbal backbone, a natural digestif served neat or over ice and a strong partner to coffee and dark chocolate. It pairs well with tiramisu and fruity desserts, and a measure adds a liquorice edge to anise forward serves. Serve it neat or over ice to open the flavour.
