Description
Ansaldi is a family winery in the Marsala district of western Sicily, run by Giacomo and Paola Ansaldi with their sons Giorgio and Edoardo. This is their single variety Grillo, grown organically on the warm coastal plain where intense sun ripens the fruit and constant sea breezes hold acidity and lend a saline edge. Grillo is a robust Sicilian white with good natural structure, historically the backbone of Marsala, and here it is made as a fresh dry table wine. Vinification is in stainless steel with six months of reductive ageing on the fine lees, which adds a little weight and roundness while the sealed tank preserves the citrus and stone fruit aromatics and keeps oxidation in check. Expect a pale straw colour, a nose of lemon, green apple, white peach and a herbal note, and a dry, medium bodied palate with citrus, almond and a clean saline finish. At 12.5% it is bright and easy. Serve well chilled at 9 to 11 degrees.
