Description
Giacomo Ansaldi is a noted researcher of Sicilian viticulture, and this Riserva comes from his estate in the Marsala area of western Sicily. Abbadessa Bianco blends Grillo with Zibibbo, the local name for Muscat of Alexandria, grown on the warm coastal plain under strong Mediterranean sun and steady sea breezes that temper the heat and preserve aromatic freshness. Farming is organic. The wine sees no oak, ageing instead for twelve months in stainless steel and a further twelve in bottle, an extended reductive and post-bottling maturation that softens the wine and lets its aromatics knit together while the sealed environment guards against oxidation. The Zibibbo drives a floral, grapey lift while the Grillo brings body and a saline coastal note. At 13.5% it is a full, dry white. Expect a deep straw colour, a perfumed nose of orange blossom, apricot, white peach and dried herbs, and a broad, textured palate carrying stone fruit, citrus peel and a savoury salinity into a long finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.

Pairs with grilled fish and roast chicken, and the aromatic lift suits mildly spiced Mediterranean dishes such as fish couscous. Try it with grilled prawns.
