Anima Mundi Gres is a biodynamic, natural Xarel-lo from Agusti Torello Roca in the Penedes. Six months in separate vessels give a vibrant golden white with lemon, lime, white flowers and a saline mineral edge.
Description
Anima Mundi Gres is made by Agusti Torello Sibil and his son Agusti Torello Roca at their AT Roca winery in the Penedes, Catalonia. The name is Latin for soul of the world, and the wine is farmed biodynamically and made as a natural wine. It is a single variety Xarel-lo, the native Catalan grape best known from the region, prized for its firm acidity, texture and ability to age. The wine spends six months maturing in separate containers, with the different parcels kept apart before blending, an approach that preserves site character and adds gentle complexity without new oak. Xarel-lo grown on the region's limestone rich soils holds its acidity through warm summers and gives a wine with weight and grip as well as freshness. The colour is a bright, brilliant gold. The nose shows lemon and lime with white flowers and a light nutty note from the time on lees. The palate is vibrant and textured, with citrus fruit, a stony minerality and a saline finish. Serve chilled at 9 to 11 degrees. It suits shellfish and grilled fish, and stands up to richer seafood dishes.
