Description
Angela Fronti farms organically certified Sangiovese for this Chianti Classico DOCG in the Radda area of Tuscany, one of the cooler, higher zones of the appellation. The vineyards sit on galestro and alberese, the flaky schist and compact limestone soils that drain freely and stress the vines, concentrating the fruit and giving the wine its mineral, savoury backbone. Altitude and the swing between warm days and cool nights extend ripening and preserve the high natural acidity that defines Sangiovese. Organic farming keeps the focus on healthy fruit and clear varietal character. After fermentation the wine ages twelve months in oak barrels, where gentle oxygen exchange softens the tannins and adds a light frame of spice without covering the fruit. The colour is bright ruby. The nose leads with red cherry, raspberry and plum over dried herbs, tobacco and an earthy note. The palate is medium bodied and fresh, with firm but fine tannins, lively acidity and a savoury, herb edged finish. This is a classic, food friendly Chianti built around acidity and structure. Serve at sixteen degrees. It is a natural match for tomato based pasta, grilled meat and Tuscan cheese.
