Andeluna grows this Malbec at altitude in the Uco Valley of Mendoza. Three months in French oak give a deep, fruit-driven red of ripe plum, red berries and a touch of vanilla, with soft tannin and warmth.
Description
Andeluna 1300 Malbec is grown in the high Uco Valley of Mendoza, Argentina, on alluvial soils at altitude in the foothills of the Andes. Elevation is central to this style: the strong sunlight ripens the fruit fully and deepens colour, while cold mountain nights preserve acidity and freshness, giving Malbec its combination of ripe fruit and lift. The stony, free-draining soils keep yields in check and concentrate flavour. Ageing is brief, three months in French oak barrels, enough to round the tannin and add a light spice and vanilla frame while keeping the wine fresh and fruit-forward rather than heavily worked. The colour is deep violet. The nose is intense, with ripe plum, blackberry and red cherry lifted by sweet spice and a touch of vanilla from the oak. The palate is full bodied and generous, with ripe, supple tannin, moderate acidity and a warm, fruit-driven finish. This is an approachable, modern high-altitude Malbec made for early drinking. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees in a large red glass, with grilled beef, lamb or rich roasts.
