Description
Bodegas Altún is a family estate in Rioja Alavesa, and Ana de Altún is a white named by brothers Iker and Alberto Martínez Pangua in tribute to their mother. It is made from Viura with a portion of Malvasia, a pairing that combines Viura's fresh, citrus driven structure with the fragrance and body Malvasia brings. This is a modern, fruit led white rather than a traditional oxidative Rioja. The fruit is kept fresh by cool nights in the region's continental climate, and the wine sees only a short three months in oak barrels, just enough to add a light texture and a touch of spice while leaving the fruit and acidity in the lead. It pours pale lemon, with an aromatic nose of lemon, green apple and white peach over white flowers. The palate is fresh and medium bodied, with citrus acidity and a clean, gently textured finish. It is approachable and versatile, made to drink young. Serve it well chilled at around 9 to 11 degrees.
