Amuerte Coca Gin – Yellow Edition

Amuerte makes some of Belgium's most theatrical gin, and the Yellow Edition is no exception. Its signature is real coca leaf, which gives a distinctive herbal character you rarely meet in a gin, here paired with the tart pop of Peruvian finger lime and rounded out by classic botanicals like juniper, coriander and cardamom. The bottle is part of the appeal: matte black with a golden-yellow design and a skull picked out in genuine 24-carat gold.

The nose is fruity and fresh, citrus and juniper carrying a whiff of the exotic. The palate is lively and complex, coca leaf and bright finger lime over juniper and fine spice, the finish long, fruity and spiced with an elegant freshness. Build it into a G&T with a slice of lime or a twist of yuzu, or take it somewhere more adventurous with ginger beer and tropical juice.
