Amrut Nilgiris Indian Dry Gin

Amrut, the family firm that gave India its first single malt, turns the same eye for quality to gin in Nilgiris, named for the blue mountains of the country's south. The botanical bill reads of forest and flower, with angelica and coriander given real prominence beside the juniper, the whole thing aiming at the cool, green character of upland woodland rather than tropical heat.

The nose is fruity and resinous, juniper and angelica over a damp woodland note. The palate is fresh and clean, angelica and coriander leading with juniper firm beneath, and the finish lingers long and herbal. Serve it in a G&T with a slice of grapefruit, or let its green backbone steady a crisp Gimlet.
