Maison AMI’s Le Gaminot is a playful field blend of Gamay, Pinot Noir, Aligoté and Chardonnay from Burgundy, farmed biodynamically. Aged in used French oak, it is a light, fresh red with bright red fruit, a floral lift and lively acidity.
Description
Maison AMI, the Burgundy project of sommelier Paul Marchand-Perarnau and winemaker Willy Roulendes, set out to make fun, characterful wines for immediate enjoyment. Le Gaminot is one of their most playful bottlings, a co fermented blend of the red Gamay and Pinot Noir with the white Aligoté and Chardonnay, released as Vin de France. Blending red and white grapes together is an old regional practice that yields a lighter, brighter, more aromatic red. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically, and the wine is made naturally with native yeasts, then aged twelve months in used French oak barrels, an older cask choice that softens the wine through gentle oxygen exchange while adding no fresh oak flavour. Burgundy's cool continental climate and limestone soils keep acidity high and the fruit precise. The colour is a pale, vivid ruby. The nose is fresh and floral, with wild strawberry, cherry, a touch of white peach and a citrus peel lift from the white grapes, framed by black pepper and a light earthy note. The palate is light, juicy and energetic, with crisp acidity and very soft tannins. Serve at 13 to 15 degrees, lightly chilled, in a standard glass. It suits charcuterie, roast chicken and grilled fish.
