Smoky and earthy for a blanco, this additive-free Amatiteña carries mint, grapefruit, lime and black pepper over a buttery, saline body, the agave fire cooked in a steel oven, tahona crushed and fermented with its own fibres.

Description
Amatiteña Blanco is a 100 percent Blue Weber tequila from Cava de Oro in El Arenal, in the Tequila valley of Jalisco, drawn from the Li Rosas field with agave grown from 2016 and harvested in 2022. It is an unusually rustic, earthy and mezcal leaning blanco, and the producer states it carries no additives, with additive testing noted via Tequila Matchmaker.
The smoke and earthiness come from process, not from any pit, since the agave is cooked in a steel oven over direct flame, then crushed on a tahona and fermented open air in wooden tanks with natural yeast and the agave fibres left in. Twice distilled in copper pot at 42 percent, it shows clean aromas of mint, grapefruit, lime, cinnamon, lemon thyme, sage and dill with ground pepper and earthy minerals, then a savoury, smoky palate with buttery, saline, oily weight, honeyed agave and warming pepper.
