Amarula Fruit Cream is a South African cream liqueur from Distell, bottled at 17% and made from the fruit of the wild Marula tree, sometimes called the elephant tree, which grows across southern Africa. The small oval Marula fruits ripen from mid January to mid March and develop a rich yellow colour and distinctive flavour, and that fruit is the heart of the liqueur, set into a creamy emulsion that gives it its soft, full body.

The nose carries Marula fruit with vanilla and caramel, the palate full bodied and creamy with the sweetness of Marula fruit and a mild, velvety vanilla note, finishing long and soft with a fruity sweetness that lingers. Behind the bar it works as a body and dessert ingredient, adding dairy richness, fruit and sweetness, which makes it a natural in an Amarula coffee or an Amarula sour and a partner to sweet desserts. Pour it neat, chilled or over ice to show the texture. As a cream liqueur it is a dairy product once opened, so keep it cool and use it reasonably fresh.
