    Amarula African Gin

    700 ml / 43%
    New Western

    $37

Creamy, fruity marula fruit sits at the centre, lifted by orange blossom and the peppery warmth of grains of paradise from Ghana. A distilled gin from South Africa, its soft sweetness setting it apart from any dry-gin convention. Sun-warmed and floral, with a spiced edge.

Amarula, long associated with the marula fruit of southern Africa, brings that exotic fruit to gin here. As a distilled gin it goes through the still first and is then refined with natural marula flavours, which gives it a characteristic fruitiness and a soft, creamy sweetness. Gentle juniper underpins it, while dried orange peel, delicate orange blossom and peppery grains of paradise from Ghana fill out a profile that feels distinctly and warmly African.

The nose opens on fresh orange blossom, ripe marula and fine juniper. The palate is harmonious and smooth, sweet orange and floral accents lifted by a peppery spice, before a long, fresh finish with a fruity, spiced echo. Pour into a gin and tonic with a slice of orange or grapefruit, or stir it into an African Negroni for something with more depth.
