Alfredo Maestro makes this natural rosé in Castilla y León from Garnacha Tintorera grown on chalky clay at 850 metres in a vineyard over 60 years old. Deeper coloured and dry, it shows red berries, cherry and a savoury earthy edge.
Description
Amanda Rosado de Lágrima is a natural rosé from Alfredo Maestro, a grower known for low intervention wines in Castilla y León. It is made entirely from Garnacha Tintorera, a teinturier variety crossed from Petit Bouschet and Garnacha with red flesh as well as red skin, which gives a rosé more colour and body than usual. Most of the fruit comes from El Cuchillejo, a vineyard over 60 years old at Olmos de Peñafiel, planted on calcareous clay soils at 850 metres above sea level. The altitude brings cold nights and a wide diurnal swing that hold acidity and freshness, while the old vines and poor soils keep yields low and flavours concentrated. Lágrima refers to the free run juice taken before pressing, the gentlest fraction. As a natural wine it is fermented with wild yeasts and made with minimal sulphur and no fining or filtration, so it shows a slightly cloudy, vinous character. The colour is a deep pink. The nose offers red berries, cherry and plum over dried herbs and earth, and the palate is dry, textured and savoury. Serve lightly chilled at around 10 degrees, ideally with food such as grilled pork or tomato based dishes.
