Bodegas Altún makes this Tempranillo rosé in Rioja Alavesa, from family vineyards at 650 metres. Fermented and held briefly in stainless steel, it stays bright and fresh, showing red berries, cherry and a clean citrus lift over a dry palate.
Description
Bodegas Altún is a three-generation family project in the Rioja Alavesa, farming its own vineyards at around 650 metres above sea level and making wine at Baños del Ebro. This rosé is a single varietal Tempranillo, the backbone grape of Rioja, here turned to a fresh young rosado. The high altitude vineyards are key: the elevation brings cool nights and a wide diurnal range that slows ripening and preserves the bright natural acidity behind the wine, while the continental climate gives clean, defined fruit. After a gentle pressing the wine is fermented and held for three months in stainless steel tanks, a young unoaked style that protects the primary fruit and keeps the colour fresh and pale. The wine shows a bright pink. The nose is fresh and fruit driven, with red berries, cherry and a touch of red currant over a light floral note. The palate is dry and crisp, with citrus lift and a clean, refreshing finish that reflects the altitude. Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It works as an aperitif and partners shellfish, white fish, salads and lighter poultry.
