Alomado is the personal Rioja project of Eduardo Eguren, of the Sierra Cantabria family, working old field-blend vineyards under sustainable farming. A red led by Tempranillo with Malvasía, Calagraño and Viura, it spends sixteen months in oak and shows dark fruit, spice and a savoury depth.

Description
Alomado comes from Cuentaviñas, the personal venture of Eduardo Eguren and Carlota González in La Rioja. Eduardo is the fifth generation of the Eguren family behind Sierra Cantabria, Teso la Monja and Viñedos de Páganos, and he set out to bottle the character of each vineyard. The wine is an old-style Rioja field blend, led by Tempranillo with the white Malvasía, Calagraño and Viura co-fermented in, an approach that adds aromatic lift and softens the structure of the red grape. The vines are farmed sustainably on the limestone and clay soils of the Rioja Alta, where altitude and a continental climate with cool nights preserve acidity and slow sugar accumulation. Sixteen months in oak barrels let measured oxygen exchange round the tannin and fold in vanilla and spice. The colour is deep red. The nose shows blackberry and dark plum over red berries, dried herbs and a peppery, earthy lift from the cool-climate fruit and the white-grape component. The palate is full and savoury, with ripe fruit, fine tannin and a long finish that stays fresh. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. It works with roast meats, mushroom dishes and hard cheeses.
