Description
Alness 12 Years Old pst Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (Phil & Simon Thompson) is a blended malt Scotch from Phil & Simon Thompson, a vatting of single malts. Blenders such as this use Teaninich for the structure and freshness it brings. Speyside and Highland malts give the vatting its body.
A blended malt marries single malts from more than one distillery to a house style. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. The malts are vatted and married to a balanced whole, then bottled. Compass Box often reaches for Teaninich to give its blends structure. A green, oily profile runs through the whole. Blenders use Teaninich for the freshness and structure it brings. A blended malt marries single malts from more than one distillery. Highland malts lend a clean, grassy thread to the vatting. The maker selects malts for the balance each brings. A period of marrying lets the whiskies settle together.
Bottled at a cask strength 50%, it is rich. Green fruit, honey and a soft spice run through it, with a clean, oily depth. It is fresh and clean, the green spirit shining through. It finishes clean, fresh and grassy. A characterful blended malt Scotch.
